Young Thug has a message for the future protectors of justice.

  • The rapper turned his legal ordeal into a lesson for students.
  • Through FaceTime, he inspired young minds at Emory’s School of Law.
  • His words highlight the importance of lawyers in society.
  • Thug encourages students to choose the path of helping others.

Young Thug, the Atlanta rapper, recently addressed a group of law students through FaceTime, a move facilitated by his lawyer, Brian Steel. Having accepted a plea deal in his high-profile RICO trial, Thug was fulfilling a condition of his probation—community service by talking to students.

Thug’s message was clear: the role of a lawyer is crucial in society. He emphasized the importance of defending people rather than imprisoning them for their mistakes, urging students to consider which side they wanted to be on. ‘You gotta always look at it like they’re there to put us in prison and you guys are here to keep us from prison,’ he stated.

He praised his lawyer, Brian Steel, calling him the best person possible and suggesting he should be a professor. Thug urged students to take inspiration from Steel’s dedication to justice and encouraged them to strive to become lawyers.

Furthermore, Thug highlighted the significance of professions that contribute positively to society. ‘Lawyers and doctors are the two greatest things that were ever founded,’ he asserted, emphasizing that these professions are doing the real work of helping people.

In another instance, Young Thug was seen with T.I., causing a stir about a possible probation violation due to T.I.’s status as a convicted felon. However, as legal reporter Meghann Cuniff explained, Thug’s probation terms only restrict him from engaging with street gang members, allowing interaction with felons unless they’re gang associates.

Cuniff noted the vague language in the probation conditions, particularly the phrase about avoiding ‘persons or places of disreputable or harmful character.’ This ambiguity could easily be used against Thug, making the plea deal’s long-term implications worrisome.

Young Thug’s speech at Emory University underscored the profound impact lawyers can have on society, urging students to choose a path of justice and empathy.
