Cornelius Smith has confessed to murdering rapper Young Dolph for a $100,000 bounty offered by Yo Gotti’s brother, Big Jook.

Smith and his accomplice, Justin Johnson, attacked Young Dolph in a Memphis cookie shop in November 2021. The attack occurred in broad daylight, shocking the community.

During Johnson’s trial, Smith testified that he fired the semi-automatic weapon seen in the CCTV footage. Smith is one of three suspects in the case; Johnson is the only one currently on trial.

Johnson’s lawyer dismissed Smith’s testimony as an attempt to reduce his own sentence. Meanwhile, Johnson continues to assert his innocence in the murder.

The tragedy roots back to a well-known feud between Young Dolph and Yo Gotti. Earlier this year, Big Jook, Yo Gotti’s brother, was fatally shot in what appeared to be a retaliatory attack.

Smith claims he was promised $40,000 for the killing but received only $800 before his arrest. After the arrest, Big Jook reportedly paid another $50,000 to Smith’s lawyer.

In a dramatic twist, Dolph’s brother returned fire during the attack, injuring Smith in the shoulder, arm, and leg. Despite his injuries, Smith felt no remorse and was solely focused on the financial reward.

Smith stated in court, “I wasn’t feeling nothing at the time. I’m not gonna lie. I was trying to get some money.”

The trial also revealed that Jemarcus Johnson, Justin’s brother, had pleaded guilty to aiding the shooters post-murder. Jemarcus awaits sentencing.

Smith implicated another co-defendant, Hernandez Govan, claiming Govan informed him and Johnson about the bounty. Govan has pleaded not guilty to orchestrating the killing.

Yo Gotti has yet to make a public statement regarding his brother’s alleged involvement in Young Dolph’s murder. The feud between Young Dolph and Yo Gotti notably dates back to 2016.

The unfolding trial continues to unravel shocking details about the tragic murder of Young Dolph.
