Westside Gunn is stirring up excitement with bold claims for his upcoming album, ‘Flygod Is An Awesome God III.’
The Griselda rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) on August 7 to declare his yet-to-be-released project as the “#AOTY” (Album of the Year). He tweeted, “MY ALBUM IS INCREDIBLE AND AOTY. I executive prod this to perfection and REMEMBER I SAID THIS!!!!! 🐐🦂.”
Fans quickly responded with eager questions about its release date, but Gunn has kept those details under wraps. He’s been teasing this final installment of his trilogy, which started in 2019, and the anticipation is building.
After suffering a personal loss in April, Gunn took a break but returned in June, hinting that new music was coming. His next update arrived last month when he detailed how the upcoming album will stand out. He said, “This ALBUM IS KRAAAAAZY!!!! I had to Bring the Mask back out bc this shit toooo RAW & DUSTY.”
The lead single, “Chocolate Face,” was already featured as the theme song for TNA Wrestling’s Slammiversary event on July 20, hinting that the full album will drop this Fall.
Last year, Gunn had declared he’d retire from making traditional studio albums. He told Rolling Stone that his 2023 project, ‘And Then You Pray For Me,’ would be his final full-length album. He explained that while he might release EPs or singles, he was done with the pressure of producing full studio albums. Instead, he’s focusing on having fun and exploring new sounds.
Gunn revealed he’s also concentrating on nurturing new artists. “I have new artists that I also want to break that are super dope,” he shared, emphasizing that his new priorities include artist development as much as his own music.
With ‘Flygod Is An Awesome God III,’ Westside Gunn aims high, promising an album that will shake the hip-hop world. Fans will just have to stay tuned for the release date.
