JAY-Z fans who missed his ‘Book of HOV’ exhibit at the Brooklyn Public Library can now bring a piece of history home. In a collaboration with luxury publisher Assouline, the exhibit has been transformed into a striking coffee table book, just in time for JAY-Z’s 55th birthday.
The original exhibit, a grand display at the Brooklyn Public Library from July to December last year, was a comprehensive showcase of JAY-Z’s journey. It featured thousands of artifacts, including original recording masters, never-before-seen photos, and iconic stage wear.
One of the focal points of the exhibit was a full-size replica of Baseline Studios, the legendary NYC recording studio where JAY-Z produced major albums like The Blueprint. Such immersive installations aimed to give a ‘behind-the-scenes’ peek into his life, celebrating his artistry and cultural impact.
Now, the exhibit lives on through ‘The Book of HOV: A Tribute To JAY-Z’, a 432-page volume capturing the entire installation. The book, created by Assouline, includes nearly 700 images and comes with insightful essays in each of its eight chapters, offering context on JAY-Z’s achievements and influence.
However, this collector’s item comes with a price tag. The ‘classic’ edition is priced at $120, while for those ready to splurge, the ‘ultimate’ edition costs $2,000. This edition features a luxurious case, white gloves, and a signature canvas tote bag.
Interestingly, part of the proceeds from the ultimate edition will support the Brooklyn Public Library, a nod to the exhibit’s origins. The exhibit itself was a monumental success, attracting over 600,000 visitors, becoming a landmark event in the Hip Hop community.
Esteemed figures like Jermaine Dupri and Questlove praised the exhibit for its creativity and scale. Jermaine Dupri even called it one of the best Hip Hop 50 celebrations, expressing his admiration in a video online. Questlove, visiting in person, was particularly impressed by the Baseline Studios replica, capturing his wonder on camera.
As the ‘Book of HOV’ turns a public spectacle into a personal collectible, it cements JAY-Z’s legacy in both the music and cultural history books. This project immortalizes not just his artistic journey but also his enduring impact on fans and the music industry.
