At long last, SZA’s deluxe version of her hit album ‘SOS,’ titled ‘Lana,’ has hit the streaming platforms, creating waves among fans.
After a much-anticipated wait, ‘Lana,’ the expanded edition of SZA’s acclaimed album ‘SOS,’ is finally available. This new release boasts an impressive 15 additional songs, along with a special feature by none other than Kendrick Lamar. The production lineup is impressive too, featuring talents like Benny Blanco, J. White Did It, and Carter Lang.
Initially set for a midnight release, ‘Lana’ faced a slight delay, arriving later in the morning. SZA candidly addressed the postponement on Instagram, stating: “Had to get my mixes right lol! All songs are delivered and ingesting into the system as we speak. pls be kind .. we been up for days.”
The album’s music videos are starting to make their debut as well. One in particular features Ben Stiller, who takes on a role lip-syncing to the evocative ballad ‘Drive’ while on a late-night joyride. These include whimsical nods to iconic scenes, like leaning out the car window Joker-style from The Dark Knight.
In one standout moment, the video concludes with an imaginative scene of SZA donning a prosthetic bug mask, similar to the one featured on the ‘Lana’ album cover. This transformation speaks to the album’s creativity and unique storytelling approach.
SZA had been teasing this project since February 2023, promising fans an experience with 10 new songs, which has now expanded to 15. In a Billboard interview, she expressed her hopes that with this release, she could find a sense of closure and accomplishment in her musical journey.
She reflected, “After I do the deluxe, I’m hoping to be able to accept that this chapter is done. I’m looking forward to actually feeling proud of myself and not just smiling and nodding at accolades but really feeling it internally and knowing that I’m good enough.”
Between her previous hits from ‘SOS’ and the fan-loved tracks from her 2017 debut ‘Ctrl,’ SZA now has a repertoire robust enough for her upcoming tour alongside Kendrick Lamar, which is set to kick off in April.
With ‘Lana,’ SZA not only expands her musical portfolio but also shares a personal journey of growth and artistic expression. Fans can expect a rich, multifaceted experience both in the album and her live performances. This release marks a pivotal moment in her career, celebrating past achievements while eagerly anticipating the future.
