Drake’s latest legal battle is raising eyebrows across the music industry.
- Drake has filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify.
- Stephen A Smith is among those criticizing Drake’s actions.
- Smith argues that Drake should respond in music rather than legal battles.
- The controversy has sparked mixed reactions from fans and critics.
Drake’s recent legal action against UMG and Spotify has become a hot topic. The rapper is accusing the music giants of artificially boosting Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us.” Additionally, he claims defamation, arguing that UMG could have prevented the release of the song, in which Kendrick allegedly accuses Drake of being a sex offender.
According to Drake’s lawsuit, “UMG … could have refused to release or distribute the song or required the offending material to be edited and/or removed.” Instead, Drake claims that UMG executed a plan to make “Not Like Us” go viral, aiming to damage his reputation while gaining massive revenues.
This legal move hasn’t been received well by everyone. Stephen A Smith, the well-known ESPN broadcaster, did not hold back his opinion. On his show, he stated, “Let’s get this out of the way right now, it’s a bad look, and it’s all smeared on Drake. All of it. This is hip-hop, man, this is hip-hop. Somebody comes at you with lyrics, with a song, you’re supposed to come right back at them with the song, with lyrics.”
Smith believes that Drake’s actions make him appear “weak and sensitive.” He emphasized that in hip-hop culture, artists are expected to respond through their music, not courts. “If the song wasn’t straight fire, there’s no way it would have had that many hits,” Smith asserted.
Stephen A Smith isn’t the only one voicing criticism. Joe Budden, through his podcast, also shared his perspective on the matter. He expressed disappointment in Drake’s behavior, calling for an end to turning a blind eye to the rapper’s actions. “The blind eye days are done,” Budden declared, highlighting a growing chorus of criticism against Drake.
This legal saga continues to stir up conversations, leaving fans and critics divided.
