Snoop Dogg and Tha Dogg Pound are diving back into their Death Row roots, teaming up with The Lady Of Rage and RBX for a powerhouse track produced by DJ Premier. The West Coast legends have just dropped their much-anticipated ninth studio album, W.A.W.G. (We All We Got), and one of the standout tracks, “Who Da Hardest?,” showcases the seasoned artists at their lyrical best.
The track, “Who Da Hardest?,” has Rage spitting fiery bars alongside her longtime collaborators. “Kurupt, Daz [Dillinger], Snoop, RBX marks the target/ I’m a DPG demi-goddess, I’m the hardest,” she declares, reminding fans of her iconic style that first came to prominence with her 1994 solo debut single, “Afro Puffs,” featuring Snoop Dogg.
The new album is out under Gala Records in collaboration with Death Row Records. Leila Steinberg, president of Gala Records, expressed excitement over the partnership, stating, “Gala Music is at the forefront of ushering both established and emerging artists into Web3 and introducing them to the many opportunities that exist in the space. And we couldn’t be more excited to partner with Death Row Records and a legendary Hip-Hop group, Tha Dogg Pound, on their first Web3 releases!”
This album release follows Snoop’s surprising acquisition of Death Row Records last year. He brought the legendary label’s catalog back to streaming platforms earlier this year, delighting fans with access to classic ’90s rap albums such as Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle and Tha Doggfather, 2Pac’s All Eyez On Me and The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, and Tha Dogg Pound’s Dogg Food. Iconic soundtracks and compilations like Above the Rim, Murder Was the Case, Gridlock’d, Death Row Greatest Hits, and Christmas on Death Row are also now available.
In a recent appearance on DJ Hed and Chuck Dizzle’s Home Grown Radio podcast, Snoop opened up about reconnecting with Daz Dillinger after a period of estrangement. He shared that his little brother’s passing was a catalyst for mending their relationship. “My little brother had passed away, and one thing about my little brother is he loved the fuck outta Daz. He loved us together,” Snoop revealed. The two got on a call, initiating a healing process that eventually led to the creation of W.A.W.G.
Bringing back the essence of their early days, Snoop Dogg, Tha Dogg Pound, and The Lady Of Rage have delivered a nostalgic yet fresh track with “Who Da Hardest?”. As they navigate new territories with Web3, this collaboration marks an exciting chapter for these hip-hop icons.
