Tha Dogg Pound just spilled the beans on a major update for Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre’s long-awaited album, Missionary. During their recent appearance on Drink Champs, Daz Dillinger and Kurupt revealed that the album is set to drop next month, in July.

The West Coast rap duo, who recently released their own project W.A.W.G. (We All We Got), seemed to accidentally let the release date slip while reminiscing about their history with Snoop and Dre. “[Snoop] Dogg sacrificed ’cause he got an album dropping in July. This album with Dr. Dre dropping in July,” Daz said. Kurupt confirmed, “He got an album coming out next month with Dr. Dre.”

The new album, Missionary, will be a joint release between Snoop’s Death Row Records, Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment, and Interscope Records. This marks the first time in over 30 years that Dr. Dre will produce an entire Snoop Dogg album.

Snoop shared some insights earlier this year on the All the Smoke podcast hosted by former NBA players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. “I’m in the lab with Dr. Dre right now. That’s Death Row/Aftermath. We’re finishing that up right now, tidying up the pieces to that. He’s a perfectionist,” he said.

Recalling how the collaboration began, Snoop mentioned, “The n-gga called me one day about two years ago. He was like, ‘N-gga, come over, let me do a couple of songs with you.’ I go over there and he like, ‘N-gga, let me do your album.’ And I’m like, ‘Alright, let’s go!’ We go in, knock out a couple of songs. He hit me back: ‘I need two more days.’ I got that call probably about 85 times. This n-gga need two more days all the time.

But when you hear what we have and how he got me rapping, it’s like a grown Snoop Dogg. There’s some growth to him. It’s the way he selects his bars, it’s the way he uses his voice. [Dr. Dre] uses me like a fucking robot and I love it because I love to be produced. I love to be challenged.”

Snoop went on to praise the material they’ve recorded as “masterful,” calling it a spiritual successor to his 1993 debut, Doggystyle. He lauded Dre for using his voice “like an instrument,” and is excited for fans to hear the evolved sound in their collaboration.

With the album set for a July release, fans won’t have to wait much longer to hear what Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre have been cooking up. Stay tuned for what promises to be a game-changing project in the world of hip hop.
