Sean Kingston and his mother made a memorable dash to their car after a fraud hearing, dodging reporters in a now-viral video.
Last Friday, the “Beautiful Girls” singer was seen sprinting away from reporters outside a federal court in Fort Lauderdale, followed closely by his mother, Janice Turner. As Kingston ran, a reporter from Florida’s Local 10 News humorously remarked, “Sean, it looks ridiculous running like that!”
Turner, not far behind, jogged toward their vehicle, waving her hands and playfully shouting at the camera. The duo had just pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud, insisting on a trial by jury.
Allegations state that Kingston and Turner orchestrated a scheme to acquire high-end jewelry and other luxury items with fake documents. Prosecutors claim the pair fraudulently obtained over $1 million in goods.
Janice Turner, with a history of fraud convictions, was arrested in May by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. Attorney Dennis Card, representing a victim, described the situation as a systematic fraud involving Kingston too. “He likes having bling, he likes showing off,” Card said.
Card elaborated that Kingston lures people with his celebrity status, convincing them to release items without payment. “He’s got basically a script,” Card stated, adding that Kingston is currently on felony probation for similar crimes.
Kingston was arrested again in June after a performance in California and faced additional grand theft charges. Authorities accused him of stealing jewelry, a Cadillac Escalade, and a custom bed worth more than $80,000, along with defrauding banks of over $45,000.
Despite their efforts to avoid the spotlight, Sean Kingston and his mother find themselves in deep legal trouble with serious fraud and theft charges piling up.
