In the latest beat battle, Plies has taken legal action against some big names for allegedly ripping off his track.
- The rapper claims GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, and Cardi B used his beat in their hit song without permission.
- Soulja Boy is also accused of earlier infringement with his track ‘Pretty Boy Swag.’
- The lawsuit specifically points to an ‘infrared countdown beat’ that appears in all related tracks.
- Respondents, including major music labels, have yet to comment on the lawsuit.
Plies is mixing it up in the courtroom, not on the stage. He’s suing GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, and Cardi B, alleging they’ve copied his 2008 beat from “Me & My Goons” in their hit “Wanna Be.” According to TMZ’s scoop, Plies sees the same beat being used by Soulja Boy in 2010’s “Pretty Boy Swag.”
Plies is pissed about an “infrared countdown beat” that he claims is his creation, now riding the charts without his blessing. This legal spat throws a spotlight on the trio of female artists, their production teams, and the heavyweight labels involved.
The lawsuit names Megan’s Hot Girl Productions, Collipark Productions, Universal Music Group, Yo Gotti’s Collective Music Group, and Interscope Records. Despite the strong claims, neither the artists nor their labels have responded to these hefty accusations.
In a twist, LilJujuMadeDaBeat, a producer familiar with Megan, jumped into the fray on social media. He argues that the beat in question might actually trace back to Dallas rapper Lil Wil’s 2007 hit “My Dougie.” He notes the beat’s original producer, Big E, is credited on “Wanna Be,” fueling the debate on originality.
LilJujuMadeDaBeat Tweeted that “‘My Dougie’ came in 2006, ‘Me & My Goons’ in 2008. Big E is credited on ‘Wanna Be.'” Adding spice, he claims “Pretty Boy Swag” is just a remake of “My Dougie.”
Adding to the drama, it isn’t the first time Plies has faced beat disputes. Earlier this year, Kodak Black reached out for a sample clearance from Plies for a new track, but never got an answer. This silence follows a history of working together on songs like “Real Hitta.”
The beat battle is on, and only time will tell how this legal drama unfolds.
