Quavo got caught in the crossfire with Ray J, who seemed to side with Chris Brown in their ongoing feud.
During an episode of Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay, Ray J downplayed the beef between Quavo and Chris Brown. Around the 1:06:45 mark, the ‘One Wish’ singer commented, ‘That’s not beef. Quavo and Chris Brown, Kendrick and Drake. You got Chris Brown, you got Drake and you got Kendrick Lamar. And no disrespect to Quavo,’ he said, adding how much Drake has aided his career by sampling ‘One Wish’ on Views.
The tension between Chris Brown and Quavo has been simmering for years, starting when Brown called out Quavo for allegedly dating his ex-girlfriend, Karrueche Tran. Brown took shots at Quavo in ‘Freak,’ a collaboration from his new 11:11 deluxe album, rapping, ‘Okay, now fuckin’ my old bitches ain’t gon’ make us equal/ Sippin’ that 1942 ’cause I don’t do no Cuervo (Quavo)/ Freak bitch, she like Casamigos, not the Migos.’
Back in 2017, the two allegedly brawled at a BET Awards afterparty. The animosity was reignited when Quavo reportedly began dating Tran, who had previously taken out a restraining order against Brown. Things boiled over earlier this year when Quavo and Brown were awkwardly seated next to each other during Paris Fashion Week. While they appeared cordial at the event, Brown later dissed Quavo on social media, writing, ‘Can’t pick who you sit by. Fuck all that growth shit. N-gga not finna fumble my bag for little n-ggas.’
Quavo responded to Brown’s digs by taunting him in his track ‘Tender,’ alluding to Brown’s history of domestic violence and drug use. He rapped, ‘You did the bitch wrong and now the bitch gone, she posted with a thug/ Call the bitch phone, she won’t come home, don’t beat her up/ It must be the drugs, need to cross out your plug.’ Quavo also seemingly confirmed his relationship with Tran, spitting, ‘Tell me, lil’ bro, what’s your issue? It’s over a thot/ You said that it’s bigger than that but no, it is not/ It’s ’cause I be diggin’ in that, it got ’em hot/ I’m givin’ respect but I know you not/ Your bitch on my neck, your bitch at the spot.’
This heated exchange escalated with Brown releasing another diss track, ‘Weakest Link,’ where he took even more personal shots at Quavo, including a reference to Quavo’s former groupmate Takeoff, who was tragically killed two years ago. ‘R.I.P. Takeoff, he the only real one, I got true respect/ Crazy how when he died, everybody really wished it was you instead,’ Brown rapped.
The feud between Quavo and Chris Brown has been ongoing and recently intensified with Ray J’s unexpected input, adding more fuel to the fire. The two artists have continued to take jabs at each other through their music and social media, showing no signs of squashing their beef anytime soon.
