Savannah’s own rapper Quando Rondo finds himself entangled with the law once more, as he lands a prison sentence for a federal drug charge.
The 25-year-old artist, whose real name is Tyquian Bowman, admitted guilt to a charge of conspiracy to possess and distribute marijuana back in August. As a result, he’s been handed a prison sentence of almost three years, steering clear of the initial five years that loomed over him.
In addition to his time behind bars, Quando Rondo faces a $40,000 fine and will be under probation for three years post-release. Part of his probation terms includes drug testing, mental health counseling, and educational programs.
Despite the setback, the rapper maintains a positive outlook, telling a local news outlet that he plans to utilize this period for self-improvement. ‘As crazy as it sounds, that’s enough time to really sit down, rehabilitate myself, come up with some better plans, come out and move forward for my family and friends,’ he shared.
Rondo expressed his desire to be a role model. He urges the youth to strive for positivity, stating, ‘You can do something way more better and positive, and doing the right thing and walking down the right path is cool.’
The legal drama surrounding the rapper was initially more severe, with charges of drug conspiracy and gang-related activities. However, he managed to reach a plea deal, lowering his charges substantially.
His remorse for past actions is evident as he apologized, ‘I’ve had ups and downs, but I know I can do better — not just for myself, but for the community that has supported me. Savannah deserves more from me, and I’m working hard to be a better person.’
Adding to his legal woes, the rapper is embroiled in a DUI case following a July 2023 crash, where he was reportedly speeding and showing signs of an overdose. This incident is still unfolding as he has pleaded not guilty.
On a brighter note, Quando Rondo recently marked eight months of sobriety. On Instagram, he celebrated his journey saying, ‘I been sober 8 months straight !!!… I finally love being sober!’ He reflected on past struggles, mentioning, ‘I used to take so many drugs… but I’m surprised I didn’t OD. That’s just mean that I’m here 4 a reason!’
Despite facing legal setbacks and personal challenges, Quando Rondo appears committed to turning his life around, serving as a testament to the power of self-reflection and growth.
