Nicki Minaj has just unfollowed Ice Spice and JT from the City Girls on Instagram, sending shockwaves through the fandom.

Eagle-eyed fans noticed the change on August 21, sparking questions about the status of their relationships. Neither Ice Spice nor JT appears on Nicki’s list of followed accounts anymore, though both continue to follow her.

Previously, it seemed like Nicki and Ice Spice were close, especially after their collaborations on hits like “Princess Diana” and “Barbie World.” However, Ice Spice recently revealed that their relationship isn’t as tight as fans thought. In a Rolling Stone interview, she said, “We don’t have the closest relationship, you know? But we’re definitely good. We’re mutuals. We had smash records together. I love us together. I think the world does too.”

She also addressed leaked text messages expressing frustration over the business aspects of their “Barbie World” collaboration. Ice Spice commented, “I don’t really think [Nicki] cares about stuff like that coming from a random girl. But what I said in those texts was just in a moment of frustration around contract negotiations. I could have chosen different words.” Despite this, she maintains respect for Nicki, saying, “[Nicki] is still somebody I respect as an artist, and I’m always going to admire everything she’s done for me and the culture.”

Meanwhile, Nicki’s relationship with JT has been rockier. Although it appeared that they had buried the hatchet, old wounds seem to have resurfaced. Nicki has previously been vocal about her reluctance to work with JT or her City Girls partner, Yung Miami, due to a resurfaced diss track aimed at her.

In a 2022 interview with The Morning Hustle, Nicki explained, “The thing is, whenever you post something on the internet, it’s there forever. Whenever you say something in an interview, it’s there forever.” She added, “So if I, as a regular human, was about to go to dinner with you tonight and then I get something that says, ‘Yo, she don’t really like you like that, she was saying this and she don’t really like you, and she said she hopes you never pop or never flourish’… I’m not going out to dinner with you anymore because now I know that I like you but you really don’t like me.”

Nicki elaborated further, saying, “That’s just a human way to feel. If you hear somebody was saying things about you— not just one thing— but repeated things, repeated tweets for years, not just one thing… It’s let go. It’s let’s go, but it’s about, why would I work with somebody who doesn’t like me?”

Whether this social media move is permanent or just a phase remains to be seen, but it certainly has fans buzzing.
