Mustard has given fans something unexpected and deeply personal. Known for his beats, he’s now stepped up to the mic. His new song “Pray For Me” reveals a side of him that’s never been seen before.
The California producer, best known for creating hit tracks for other artists, has ventured into rapping with his latest release. In “Pray For Me,” Mustard opens up about his family, friends, and experiences over the past five years. He shares, “I always used to say I would never rap on a song. I feel like people have never heard my side of any story.”
This track, part of his upcoming album Faith of a Mustard Seed, is particularly poignant. Mustard’s decision to rap came from a need to express something genuine and heartfelt. “I always wanted to talk about something that was real to me, and that, even if you didn’t like the rap, you really like, understood he’s saying some real stuff, what he’s saying is honest, and it’s vulnerable,” he explained.
The inspiration for the album’s title came from the late Nipsey Hussle. During the making of Mustard’s 2019 album, Perfect Ten, Nipsey suggested the name Faith of a Mustard Seed. Although Mustard had a different title in mind, he realized Nipsey’s suggestion resonated deeply with him. The title perfectly encapsulates the themes of faith and resilience that run through the album.
Scheduled for release on July 26, Faith Of A Mustard Seed marks a new chapter in Mustard’s career. It will be released through a new partnership with BMG, a company known for promoting artistic independence and innovation. Mustard’s collaboration with BMG aims to push the boundaries of creativity and deliver impactful music to a global audience.
Mustard’s transition from producing to performing shows his willingness to evolve and share his personal journey. With “Pray For Me” and the upcoming album Faith Of A Mustard Seed, he’s not just delivering music; he’s sharing pieces of his life, making his art more relatable and heartfelt.
