Meek Mill has taken to social media to address the eyebrow-raising comments made by Michael Rubin about what he perceives as a prevalent “hate” within Black culture.

Earlier this week, billionaire Michael Rubin, a close friend and business partner to Meek Mill, appeared on ‘The Breakfast Club’ to defend Meek against rumors concerning his sexuality. However, his remarks stirred up some serious controversy.

Rubin stated, “When I see the narrative of a really good friend of mine like Meek […] there’s not one gay bone in his body so why do people want to lie about that? Why do people want to change the narrative to try to hurt him?” This comment was met with backlash, but Rubin didn’t stop there. He continued, “The one thing I’ve learned about Black culture that I don’t like: Black[-on-Black] hate […] It’s horrible.”

Rubin, who is also close with other prominent Black entertainers like JAY-Z and Travis Scott, said, “You guys correct me if I’m wrong. I think there’s a little bit of a Black culture of, like, it’s Black hate-on-hate. I think it’s terrible. I think it’s culturally wrong […] Why do you not want to build everyone up around you? Why do you not want everyone around you to do great?”

Meek Mill responded on X (formerly Twitter), expressing his dissatisfaction with Rubin’s comments. He tweeted, “Rubin shouldn’t be saying that type stuff out loud … a black man suppose to but nobody saying it… Its like we only collab on songs women and parties… he be hearing my friends getting murdered like why meek, I can’t explain it to him in a sensible way!”

Rubin attempted to clarify his stance, admitting he was out of line. On X, he wrote, “I got a phone call from one of the people I have the most respect for in the world – they told me while they appreciate my intention, it’s not my place to speak on black culture. I get it and really appreciate the input!” He further explained, “My intention was to say how important it is that we need to uplift each other, stop hate on each other, and push each other to win, and always root for each other’s success! My bad, Much love and appreciate the feedback.”

Many assumed Rubin’s call came from JAY-Z due to their close relationship. While some criticized Rubin harshly, others came to his defense. ScHoolboy Q tweeted, “braH…… im cool on this app tHis sHit outta control dog [crying face emojis] NO SUCH THING AS BLACK ON BLACK ANYTHING WTF.”

In a more critical but later deleted post, ScHoolboy Q added, “YOU KNOW WAT I DONT LIKE ABOUT U N-GGERS? I HATE WHEN U N-GGERS BE ACTING LIKE N-GGERS [crying laughter emoji].. basically.” He further explained his decision to delete it by saying, “Dat do look crazy don’t it [crying face emojis]….ill delete it.”

Meanwhile, Million Dollaz Worth of Game co-host Gillie Da Kid supported Rubin, commenting on Instagram, “Man keep speaking the truth I’ll say it for u black people be hating on black people.”

The heated exchange between Meek Mill and Michael Rubin has garnered widespread attention. Rubin’s comments and subsequent apology have sparked a broader conversation about cultural sensitivity and the importance of supportive dialogue within the Black community.
