- Meek insists he’s neutral, respects both artists, and enjoys their music.
- Controversial comments by Akademiks add fuel to the fire.
Meek Mill recently took to social media to clarify his relationships with both Drake and Kendrick Lamar. During an interactive Q&A session on X (formerly known as Twitter), he made some surprising statements about the two rap giants.
When asked about his top three West Coast rappers, Meek included Tupac, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar without any specific order. This prompted some followers to question his loyalty, suggesting he was lying about his admiration for Kendrick. Meek firmly responded, “In the west coast never said he’s my favorite most lyrical effective of my era from the west… fuck you want me to lie!? lol.”
The conversation heated up when another user implied that Kendrick’s inclusion in his list meant Drake had dropped in Meek’s regard. Meek was quick to counter, stating, “Nah I fuck with drake he cool him and Kendrick beef has nothing to do with me I fw k dot too I have all their disses on my playlist right now.”
Despite Meek’s efforts to remain neutral, not everyone is convinced. Back in May, media personality Akademiks stirred the pot by accusing Meek of instigating the beef between Drake and Kendrick. According to Akademiks, Meek missed his chance to definitively end his feud with Drake in 2015, which consequently emboldened Drake.
Akademiks didn’t hold back, claiming Meek’s failure to capitalize on the feud left Drake feeling undefeatable. He harshly criticized Meek, suggesting that anyone could have beaten the Canadian star if they had acted smartly. He pointed out that Meek should have exposed Drake’s use of ghostwriters in a diss track instead of a tweet.
While Meek’s attempt to clarify his stance on Drake and Kendrick might have been sincere, the undercurrents of past controversies and opinions keep the debate alive.
Meek Mill’s attempt to clarify his friendships with Drake and Kendrick Lamar has certainly sparked conversation, but not everyone’s convinced.
