Master P’s got Super Bowl fever and a dream: Kendrick Lamar, in all his halftime glory, sharing the stage with Lil Wayne in New Orleans.
The New Orleans native and No Limit boss, given the title of official “entertainment ambassador” for the 2025 Super Bowl, wants to see Weezy. After Kendrick was announced as the performer, Master P voiced his thoughts on social media, joining fans and peers in their disappointment over Lil Wayne’s absence.
“Salute to @kendricklamar for performing at the halftime show at Super Bowl LIX… well-deserved,” Master P began. “As Ambassador of Entertainment in the City of New Orleans, I have to agree with the fans that @liltunechi #LilWayne should be a part of this celebration as well. He’s one of the greatest Hip Hop artists alive, still relevant, and a New Orleans native. Let’s not miss this cultural moment in the South. Life is too short! We have to give our legends their flowers while they are here.”
Master P isn’t alone in his sentiments. Renowned mixing engineer Fabian Marasciullo, who has worked closely with Wayne on several projects, expressed his discontent on Instagram Stories. Marasciullo wrote he was “Confused. Disappointed. Angry. But most of all. Inspired.” He vowed never to be in such a position again where decisions about their participation are out of their hands.
Whether there have been formal talks between Lil Wayne and the NFL remains unclear. However, the Young Money founder has openly yearned to perform at the Super Bowl, especially in his hometown. During an interview with Taylor Rooks for Bleacher Report last December, he emphasized his desire, calling it a significant achievement as an artist.
Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar’s announcement has been met with praise from others. JAY-Z, as part of the NFL’s official statement, called Kendrick a “once-in-a-generation” artist, lauding his deep love for hip-hop and his ability to influence culture globally. Jay-Z noted that Kendrick’s impact transcends music and will be felt for years.
Kendrick’s performance at the Super Bowl LIX halftime show is highly anticipated. However, as the buzz grows, Master P’s call to include Lil Wayne adds another layer of excitement and potential for an unforgettable cultural moment.
Whether Kendrick Lamar will heed Master P’s call and bring out Lil Wayne remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure: Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans is already shaping up to be a show for the ages.
