Ma$e has kicked off the much-anticipated season five of It Is What It Is in spectacular fashion with a fiery freestyle over Common’s “The Corner.”
In contrast to previous season premieres where co-host Cam’ron took center stage, this latest episode saw Ma$e deliver a dazzling performance that earned applause from notable rap figures.
Displaying a leaner physique and youthful energy, Ma$e effortlessly showcased his talent over the Kanye West-produced beat. He rapped, ‘We can go body for body, hottie for hottie, thottie for thottie / Robbery for robbery, ‘Rari for ‘Rari, to homi for homi / Lobby for lobby, n-gga, choppy for choppy / We can go switch for switch and go lami for lami.’
He continued with, ‘I’m so bossy call me Hugo, $80K on the Hublot / Cops pulled me out the two-door, I’m high as Pluto / Mamis love me like Menudo / Already got it, you know / I get a bag of blue notes to do their party, two shows.’
Cam’ron was quick to express his enthusiasm on Instagram, stating, ‘Nahhhhh!!! MURDER HOME!!! [steaming face emojis] @rsvpmase Now the price just went up[.] Season 5 on right now with @michaelirvin88[.] The greatest show on earth has returned!! Happy fucking Labor Day.’
Ma$e’s freestyle received further acclaim from his peers. Joe Budden, Freeway, Symba, and Gillie Da Kid all filled the comments section with fire emojis. Conway The Machine added, ‘Yeaahhhhhhh [fire emojis],’ while Twista remarked, ‘Yellow tape that whole studio up her murdered that.’ D-Nice echoed, ‘Bro! Murda Ma$e! The flow is still crazy!’
Following this impressive lyrical display, Cam’ron humorously questioned Ma$e about his recent 70-pound weight loss, joking about the weight loss drug Ozempic. Ma$e replied with a laugh, saying, ‘Nah, I signed up with this coach named Ricky Moore that’s a professional bodybuilder. He just put me on the alkaline diet so I’m only eating fruit, vegetables and water for now.’
It remains to be seen if Ma$e’s rendition of ‘The Corner’ will be available on streaming platforms. Given the success of Cam’s viral freestyle over D’Angelo’s ‘Cruisin’,’ there’s a possibility it could be officially released.
Ma$e’s electrifying freestyle has reignited excitement among fans and peers alike, marking a triumphant start to the new season of It Is What It Is.
