The music world was taken by surprise as Mac Miller’s estate revealed that a new posthumous album, ‘Balloonerism’, is coming. The announcement happened at Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, and it certainly hit a chord with fans.
During the event, a cinematic trailer was unveiled, showcasing movie-quality CGI and teasing two previously unreleased tracks. One of these tracks, intriguingly titled ‘The Song That Changed Everything’, reportedly features renowned artist SZA, alongside another track, ‘5 Dollar Pony Rides’.
The trailer concluded with a simple yet tantalizing message: ‘Soon’. This, coupled with what appears to be the album cover, painted an exciting picture for eager fans. The artwork is a poignant balloon-themed painting of Mac Miller, crafted by artist Alim Smith. Interestingly, a similar image was shared on Instagram back in 2018, to which Mac himself commented, ‘Need this.’
Mac Miller’s journey with ‘Balloonerism’ is quite fascinating. Reports suggest that the album was recorded over just a week in 2014, right before he began work on the beloved mixtape ‘Faces’. His manager, Quentin Cuff, described the project as ‘very zany’ and full of otherworldly creations.
While a release date is yet to be shared, ‘Balloonerism’ follows in the footsteps of Mac’s first posthumous album ‘Circles’. Released in January 2020, ‘Circles’ was a complementary piece to his fifth LP, ‘Swimming’. Both projects were deeply connected to his artistry and were worked on closely by producer Jon Brion.
Mac Miller’s legacy continues to inspire through his music, and ‘Balloonerism’ promises to be a testament to his creative spirit.
