Lupe Fiasco is shaking things up again! Here’s what went down in his latest music adventure:
- Child Rebel Soldier (CRS) makes a comeback, but this time it’s just Lupe.
- The new track ‘Shrink’ keeps up with the tradition of using Radiohead samples.
- Lupe’s Samurai! Tour is set to kick off in October.
- The original CRS trio recorded several hits back in the day.
Lupe Fiasco has brought back his supergroup Child Rebel Soldier with a new track called ‘Shrink.’ Unlike the original formation, this time he’s going solo without Kanye West or Pharrell.
The song prominently samples Radiohead’s ‘Optimistic,’ sticking to the CRS ethos of rapping over beats from the legendary British band. It’s a testament to Lupe’s continued innovation in music.
‘Shrink’ also serves as promo for Lupe’s upcoming Samurai! Tour, which starts in October, complementing his latest album of the same name.
Lupe recently revealed plans to reboot CRS, with or without his former bandmates, aiming to recapture the original energy of the group. “I’m gonna reboot CRS in the next six months, maybe next year,” he shared.
He also talked about the challenges of releasing such music commercially, noting it’s tricky due to clearance issues. “I’ve always wanted to do an album with [Radiohead’s] producer, Nigel Godrich,” Lupe remarked.
Child Rebel Soldier, formed in 2007, first made waves with their single “Us Placers,” famous for sampling Thom Yorke’s ‘The Eraser.’ Despite aspirations for an album, only a few more tracks were released before the group disbanded in 2013.
Lupe has hinted there’s unreleased music from their recording days, creating buzz among fans who hope these tracks will see the light of day.
Lupe Fiasco is once again proving his commitment to musical innovation and keeping fans eagerly anticipating what’s next.
