Lil Baby found himself uncomfortably close to Young Thug’s legal troubles, narrowly avoiding arrest during the YSL rapper’s May 2022 encounter with the law.

During a candid chat with Lil Yachty on his podcast ‘A Safe Place,’ Lil Baby revealed he was at Young Thug’s house the same day authorities arrived. Fortunately, he left just two hours before the arrest, a close call that left him reflecting on the situation.

“What people don’t know and I don’t even tell people – I could’ve been with him,” Lil Baby shared. His relief was palpable as he realized how close he came to being involved. “Thank God I just happened to leave two hours early. That’ll mess with your head more than anything,” he admitted, noting that watching Young Thug’s plight hit him hard because of their long-standing friendship.

This wasn’t just a career peer; Young Thug and Lil Baby go way back. “A n-gga had to change they whole life around. [This is] not even my rap peer. This is my everyday [friend]. These n-ggas I grew up with,” he explained, underscoring the personal impact.

The YSL RICO case also saw rapper Gunna arrested and later released after a plea deal. However, this decision estranged him from many in the rap community, including Lil Baby and Young Thug. When asked about his relationship with Gunna during an appearance on Charlamagne Tha God’s ‘Out of Context’ series on YouTube, Baby was blunt: “We don’t got no relationship. Nope.”

Lil Baby was also asked if he’d consider working in the studio with Gunna if Young Thug requested it. His response was firm: “I don’t see that happening. I don’t know what nobody else will do, but as far as me,” he said, indicating there were limits to his loyalty.

Despite what some internet narratives suggest, Baby denied dissing Gunna in his song “350.” “That’s just the internet and what they gonna create,” he explained. “I talk about rats in every song I have since I started rapping. So now you know they just create a narrative and I don’t even be talking about a n-gga.”

In a previous song snippet, Baby appeared to show support for Young Thug while taking subtle jabs at Gunna with the lyrics: “Pussy n-ggas taking pleas/ I know Slime ain’t happy.”

Lil Baby’s close call with the law is a stark reminder of the thin line between freedom and incarceration. His loyalty to Young Thug remains unshaken, yet his stance on those who compromise their integrity is clear. In the world of rap, friendships and alliances are tested, but Lil Baby seems determined to stick to his values.
