Lenny Kravitz recently opened up about why he’s chosen celibacy for the past nine years.
In an interview with The Guardian, 60-year-old Lenny Kravitz discussed his tumultuous relationship with love and intimacy, revealing that his decision to remain celibate was influenced by what he calls a generational curse. Kravitz shared that this journey began when he discovered that his father, Sy Kravitz, was cheating on his mother, Roxie Roker.
Recalling a painful memory, Kravitz mentioned confronting his father about the affair. His father warned him that he might follow the same path, and eventually, Kravitz realized this prediction was coming true. ‘He became right,’ Kravitz admitted. ‘After the marriage, I became more like him. I was becoming a player.’
Kravitz then made a conscious decision to change his ways. ‘I didn’t like it. I didn’t want to be that guy. So I had to tackle that and it took years,’ he explained. ‘By taking responsibility. Discipline. Not letting my own desires take over.’
Today, he is committed to celibacy until he meets the right person. Although he acknowledges the challenge of finding someone, especially since he has grown quite comfortable with his solitude, Kravitz describes this decision as ‘a spiritual thing’ and admits he has ‘become very set in [his] ways.’
Kravitz first spoke about his celibacy in a 2008 interview with Maxim, where he mentioned he would wait until marriage to become intimate with someone, focusing on ‘the big picture.’
Lenny Kravitz’s journey of celibacy is deeply rooted in his desire for personal growth and a commitment to breaking generational patterns. It’s a path he continues to walk with a sense of spiritual purpose.
