Lecrae recently shared a memorable and somewhat embarrassing story from a Super Bowl party involving J. Cole.
During an interview on the New Rory and Mal podcast, Lecrae recounted his first encounter with J. Cole. It all happened at a star-studded Super Bowl party where the drinks were flowing freely.
Lecrae approached J. Cole and greeted him enthusiastically with a drunken slur. He awkwardly asked J. Cole, ‘You believe in God?’ When J. Cole affirmed but mentioned he wasn’t a practicing Christian, Lecrae responded by suggesting they talk more about it.
Trying to keep the conversation going, Lecrae gave J. Cole his number but forgot to include his name. As J. Cole walked away, Lecrae realized his mistake and sheepishly told him. To his surprise, J. Cole reassured him, saying he knew who Lecrae was.
The next morning, Lecrae reflected on his behavior and expressed his regret publicly, apologizing to J. Cole for his tipsy approach.
Lecrae also shared more pleasant encounters with other artists, like his deep conversations with Kendrick Lamar, whom he described as one of his favorites for allowing him to be a spiritual guide.
However, his sentiments were not as positive towards Lil Nas X. Lecrae voiced his concerns on social media about Lil Nas X’s use of religious imagery. He warned of the potential consequences, quoting Leviticus, while still expressing hope for transformation.
Lecrae’s story illustrates the unpredictable mix of humor and sincerity that can come from celebrity encounters, especially when a bit of alcohol is involved.
