Latto has ignited her ongoing feud with Ice Spice with a track on her new album ‘Sugar Honey Iced Tea.’
Released on August 9, the album features a song titled ‘S/O to Me,’ where Latto appears to jab at Ice Spice. In the first verse, she raps: ‘Bye sis, funny thing about it, you can’t look me in my eye, sis,’ playing on Ice Spice’s first name, Isis. The second verse is even more pointed: ‘Shoutout to myself/ Who the hardest out? Bitch, it’s Latto by herself/ Ice is just water when it melts/ Wipe you down, I got plenty towels on the shelf.’
Listeners quickly picked up on these lines. Akademiks posted on Instagram, ‘Latto disses Ice Spice on new album. Y’all think Ice Spice should pick up a stick or y’all think them bars don’t need a response?’ His post sparked debate among fans.
Despite these lyrics, Latto herself has been sending mixed signals about her intentions. In a Billboard conversation last month, she mentioned she has no plans to engage in a full-blown feud. ‘I’m a fan of music. I’m not one of them ‘lyrical only’ people. There’s so many sub-genres that I’m a fan of,’ she said. She added, ‘If I was to do [a battle], it would have to be with somebody I feel like I’ma go tit for tat with. I really don’t mean it as shade.’
The feud isn’t entirely one-sided. Back in February, Ice Spice took a shot at Latto on her song ‘Think U the Shit (Fart),’ rapping: ‘I got my foot on they necks, I can’t let up/ She all on the floor, told her get up.’ Latto then responded on ‘Sunday Service’ with the lines: ‘Think I’m the shit, bitch, I know it, ho/ Jesus walked on water, I got ice boilin’ though.’
The back-and-forth between these two artists shows no sign of slowing down. Fans are left to wonder if this lyrical sparring will escalate or if it’s just part of the game.
