Killer Mike enters the chat with some history lessons in Lil Yachty’s fashion debate, and things are getting spicy!

  • Lil Yachty claims Atlanta sets the fashion trends while New York just follows.
  • Killer Mike defends Yachty by highlighting Big Boi’s iconic throwback jersey look.
  • Debate ensues on social media about who really started these trends.
  • Juelz Santana and Fivio Foreign clap back, sticking up for New York’s style.

Killer Mike has jumped into Lil Yachty’s controversial fashion debate, bringing up Big Boi’s history as a trendsetter. Yachty stirred the pot by saying Atlanta starts all the fashion trends, and New York just copies. Mike, somewhat defending Yachty, took to social media to highlight Atlanta’s lasting impact on style.

Mike gave credit to Big Boi of OutKast, tweeting: ‘I have Zero Interest in this lame ass debate BUT, Big Boi Started the Throw Back Jersey Trend with that cold ass Houston Astro’s Jersey.’ He even added a screenshot of Big Boi in said jersey from Goodie Mob’s ‘Black Ice (Sky High)’ video in 1998.

When someone pointed out that Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest wore sports jerseys before that video, Mike clarified: ‘RIP OG Phife. He was a sports fan and inspired us all[,] with that said the Throw back Era is Something Big Boi who is also like us a Tribe Fan Started in 98 with that Black Ice Vid Houston Jersey. Long Live Tribe and Kast.’

The discussion didn’t end there, as another user mentioned that flip flops and socks were big in L.A. for years. Mike replied: ‘Cannot deny that BUT the Adidas Flop and Sox is what i am referring to not the OG Croaker Flops and House shoes. Adidas Flops and Soccer sox is some Rico Wade (RIP) shit.’

The debate started when Yachty, on his A Safe Place Podcast with Cash Cobain, said New York lacks a distinct fashion identity and just copied Atlanta’s style. He called out Bronx and Queens specifically, asking if they even shop in Manhattan.

This didn’t sit well with New Yorkers. Juelz Santana fired back on Instagram, saying: ‘WE all Love Atl But did @lilyachty SAY say the flyes [ninja emoji] N the Most TRENDSETTERS Came from ALT WOW Much love bro.’ He highlighted the impact of NYC icons like A$AP Rocky and Fabolous. Fivio Foreign also clapped back on X: ‘How Yatchy say ATL dress better then ny w a whole NY fit.’

The fashion debate rages on, but it’s clear both cities have made their mark.
