  • He’s urging social media platforms to get with the times.

Kid Cudi recently discovered that his Instagram account was slapped with a ‘strike’ for posting a picture of a joint. The rapper shared the surprising news on X (formerly Twitter) on August 8.

In his tweet, Kid Cudi expressed his frustration: ‘Just found out I got what is called a “strike” from IG becuz I posted a picture of a joint haha 🤦🏾‍♂️ how many pictures have I posted smoking since Ive been on IG? Lame. Its weed. Its 2024. Make it make sense.’

According to Instagram’s community guidelines, content that goes against their rules will be removed, and a strike may be applied depending on the severity of the post, its context, and when it was shared.

However, the platform doesn’t specify what happens after a first strike or how many strikes are allowed before an account risks suspension.

Kid Cudi has been a frequent social media user, often sharing personal updates, engaging with fans and peers, and spreading positivity within the hip-hop community.

In June, Cudi highlighted the need for more love and support in hip-hop, praising top producer Hit-Boy, Young Thug signee Strick, and Jaden Smith.

In his message, he called for more celebration of his peers’ work: ‘We need more love and support for one another in hip hop man. I gotta do better too.’

He focused on celebrating his peers, saying, ‘I try to show homies work sometime but I gotta really celebrate what my homies do or even people I dont know I think are dope. To spread the world, get cool shit out there I think u need to.’

Cudi’s message of unity came just before his latest run-in with Instagram’s guidelines, adding another layer to his ongoing conversation about positivity and support in the music industry.

Cudi’s clash with Instagram showcases the ongoing tension between evolving social norms and rigid platform guidelines.
