Kendrick Lamar is all set to steal the spotlight at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, but there’s a twist in the tale—SWV might just join him!
Kendrick Lamar’s new album, GNX, has been making waves, particularly with the track ‘The Heart Pt. 6.’ In this song, Kendrick samples SWV’s classic 1996 hit, ‘Use Your Heart,’ quickly becoming a favorite among fans. SWV’s LeLee Lyons has openly expressed her hopes for a Super Bowl collaboration. She took to Threads, saying, “Soooo @kendricklamar sampled our song ‘use your heart’. Wouldn’t it be a treat if we performed together at the Super Bowl? [Fingers] crossed.”
While Kendrick has remained silent on the matter, Lyons has garnered significant support for her idea, including from notable figures like model and former video vixen Esther Baxter.
In ‘The Heart Pt. 6,’ Kendrick reflects on his early days with TDE, reminiscing about his time with Jay Rock, ScHoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul. He acknowledges a missed opportunity—the group never put out an album because he embarked on new creative journeys. This track revisits those sessions and highlights his growth and personal journey.
Kendrick’s track delves deep into personal history, even mentioning Ab-Soul in a heartfelt verse. He candidly admits, “I jog my memory, knowin’ Black Hippy didn’t work ’cause of me/ Creatively, I moved on with new concepts in reach…” This verse prompted a warm response from Ab-Soul on Instagram Live, calling Kendrick his brother and expressing admiration for his influence.
Ab-Soul’s words were filled with emotion and respect, as he said, “He taught me the most as a professional recording artist…We really slept on the floor for this, all of us. Dot, [Jay] Rock, [ScHoolboy] Q, Sounwave.” Ab-Soul also humorously claimed the title of the “B.O.A.T,” asserting, “I am the best rapper. Ask anyone. I say that humbly, it’s not from a place of arrogance. I really do this.”
The prospect of SWV joining Kendrick Lamar for the Super Bowl is an exciting thought for fans and artists alike. Only time will tell if this dream becomes a reality.
