Kendrick Lamar, the acclaimed rapper, is reportedly planning to release a deluxe version of his unexpected album ‘GNX.’ This exciting news was casually confirmed by fellow artist Lefty Gunplay during an interview.
In a recent sit-down with interviewer Bootleg Kev, Lefty Gunplay, who worked with Kendrick on the track ‘TV Off,’ hinted that Kendrick has more in store for his fans. When asked about any material not making it to the album, Gunplay revealed, ‘He has some stuff. We did two, three songs. He has some stuff in the chamber. He told me that we’re going to work again, for sure.’
Gunplay further shared an interesting detail about working with Kendrick, mentioning the signing of a non-disclosure agreement. ‘Everybody thought I was playing — I wasn’t, though, as much as I wanted to tell everybody. I almost blew it,’ he explained, humorously reflecting on the secrecy surrounding Lamar’s projects.
The collaborator also expressed his excitement about working with Lamar, saying, ‘We had to sign NDAs and they were like, You’re going [in the studio] with Kendrick,’ and it didn’t hit me ’til he walked in there and gave me a hug. He’s been locked in with me since April and he said that I’m the missing piece that the West Coast needed.’
‘GNX’ is already making waves, and its deluxe version is expected to climb to number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Initial projections suggest that the album will earn around 291,000 equivalent album units in its first week. To put it into perspective, this means ‘GNX’ will surpass the anticipated release figures of the ‘Wicked’ soundtrack.
Among major rap albums this year, ‘GNX’ ranks third in first-week sales, trailing behind Travis Scott’s ‘Days Before Rodeo’ re-release and Tyler, The Creator’s ‘Chromakopia.’ However, it stands strong against other heavyweights like Eminem’s ‘The Death of Slim Shady,’ Future and Metro Boomin’s ‘We Don’t Trust You,’ and Kanye West’s ‘Vultures 1.’
On the singles charts, Kendrick is enjoying a good week with his song ‘TV Off’ topping Spotify and Apple Music in the U.S. His tracks ‘Squabble Up’ and ‘Luther,’ featuring SZA, are also performing well. As a result, Kendrick might dethrone Shaboozey’s impressive 19-week reign at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
With ‘GNX’ poised to make a significant impact, Kendrick Lamar demonstrates once again why he’s one of the most influential voices in music. Fans can look forward to discovering any additional surprises the deluxe edition might hold, further cementing Kendrick’s legacy in the rap scene.
