Kendrick Lamar has been caught on camera in what appears to be his first film role alongside ‘South Park’ creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker.
Social media lit up on Monday (September 30) with videos showing Kendrick Lamar and the ‘South Park’ duo shooting scenes for an upcoming live-action comedy. The shoot took place in Pomona, California.
While details about the project remain scarce, the film has been in the works for nearly three years. The yet-to-be-named movie is said to explore the past and present colliding when a young Black man, interning as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum, discovers his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his.
Brian Robbins, CEO of Paramount, the company distributing the film, called it ‘one of the funniest and most original scripts we’ve ever read,’ promising it will create ‘some fireworks’ at CinemaCon earlier this year.
Vernon Chatman, a veteran ‘South Park’ writer, is handling the script. Chatman has previously collaborated with artists like Killer Mike and Snoop Dogg. Meanwhile, Trey Parker will direct, and Matt Stone, Kendrick Lamar, and his longtime collaborator Dave Free are set to produce.
It’s unclear whether Kendrick will also star in the movie, despite having past acting experience in 50 Cent’s ‘Power’ series. The film is set to hit theaters on July 4, 2025, but additional casting details remain undisclosed.
Kendrick and the ‘South Park’ creators are not strangers to collaboration. They previously worked together on Kendrick’s 2022 music video ‘The Heart Part 5.’ The video featured deepfake technology that transformed Kendrick into various famous figures, including Kobe Bryant and Will Smith. Matt Stone revealed in an interview that one deepfake, turning Kendrick into 2Pac and Kanye West, didn’t make the final cut.
Fans eagerly await more details on Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming film, set for release in July 2025. This unexpected collaboration with the ‘South Park’ creators promises to be both hilarious and thought-provoking.
