Big Sean sat down with Charlamagne Tha God for an in-depth conversation where he opened up about an unexpected diss from Kendrick Lamar that leaked last year. The track was an unreleased version of Kendrick’s ‘Pandemic’ from the 2018 Black Panther soundtrack.
On the leaked song, Kendrick rapped, ‘Big Sean keep sneak dissin’…You finally famous for who you date, not how you rhyme.’ This verse caught Sean off guard as it suggested underlying conflicts.
Sean explained he believed the tension started with his 2016 song ‘No More Interviews.’ Many speculated that his reference to fast-rapping rappers was about Kendrick, though Sean denied this.
Despite reaching out to Kendrick to clear the air, Sean couldn’t connect and was assured by TDE’s Top Dawg that there was no animosity.
Joe Budden further intensified the perceived beef, to the point where Sean and Kendrick almost believed it themselves. Sean admitted, ‘He made that narrative so fucking real that I think it really did become a thing.’
Later on, Sean ran into Kendrick’s manager, Dave Free, who confirmed there were no issues. This put Sean at ease until the song leaked in 2023, reviving the old rumors.
Sean described his reaction to the leak as one of confusion, ‘I’m like damn, mothafucka said it wasn’t shit! It was crazy.’ However, understanding it was an old track, he approached Kendrick for clarity.
To Sean’s relief, Kendrick quickly apologized, squashing any potential beef. Sean emphasized, ‘I’m not a clout chasing ass n-gga, bro. I’m solid.’
Sean wanted to assure his fans that he wasn’t backing down from beef but was simply being mature about the situation. ‘If it was real smoke…I would be there front and center for it,’ he asserted.
When asked if they’re still cool, Sean confirmed there’s no bad blood: ‘If it was a diss, it would have been another diss.’ He also hinted at having ideas prepared if things had escalated.
Sean and Kendrick have moved past the misunderstanding, proving maturity can squelch even the hottest rumors.
