Kanye West recently found himself at the center of a legal storm, sparking headlines everywhere. The rapper was caught in a fiery exchange during a deposition. The confrontation was part of a lawsuit involving technology theft allegations. Kanye’s mask-wearing antics added fuel to the fire. The situation ended in a legal settlement though tensions ran high.
Kanye West, the rapper known for his bold personality, was involved in a heated deposition related to an eight-figure lawsuit. This legal battle, featured in A&E’s “Interrogation Raw: Celebrity Under Oath,” involved allegations of stealing technology.
Ye, taking the deposition from the comfort of his home via Zoom, preferred the company of his phone over the legal proceedings. When attorney Michael Popok urged him to put the device away, Kanye justified his actions by declaring, “Due to my mental geniusness, in order to focus on this bullshit, I need to be on a phone.”
The situation escalated as Kanye defiantly donned a full-face mask, telling Popok, “You don’t have the right to see my face.” Things took a turn when Popok innocently asked about Kanye’s whereabouts, sparking a response that could raise anyone’s eyebrows: “I’m not gonna tell you! You never gonna see me again!”
The deposition became even more confrontational when Popok inquired about the contents of Kanye’s room. In response, a frustrated Kanye shouted, “Are you stupid?! I’m not gonna tell you other things. I don’t have time to be talking about, ‘I got a chair in the room.’ You are talking to the richest Black person in the history of America!”
This fiery deposition was part of a 2020 lawsuit where technology company MyChannel accused Kanye of promising a $10 million investment and appropriating their tech for his shows. They also claimed to have invested 10,000 hours and $7 million in his brand.
After the deposition, a MyChannel lawyer remarked, “West’s bad faith efforts to sabotage the deposition will be viewed by the Court as one of the most outrageous and inappropriate deposition performances it has observed.”
Despite the intense confrontation, Kanye and MyChannel reached a settlement in 2021, agreeing to dismiss all claims and cover their own legal costs, with Kanye denying any wrongdoing throughout.
Kanye West’s legal saga was as unpredictable as his persona, ending with a settlement that left the drama behind.
