During the show, Ye treated fans to a nearly two-minute snippet of a new song titled ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ While it’s unclear if he performed it live or played a recording, the track features the catchy line, ‘It’s been a long time coming,’ in its chorus.
Interestingly, the song seems to lack any collaborations and includes a sped-up sample over a paired-down instrumental. This might signal a return to what many fans consider the ‘old Kanye’ style.
Kanye’s announcement wasn’t entirely out of the blue. He recently hinted at a shift back to his artistic roots. In a text exchange with producer Digital Nas, Kanye said, ‘I’m going into my full art Ye art studio mode.’ He even posted clips from the satirical film ‘The Painter’ on social media, adding to the buzz.
Ahead of this performance, which marked his second ‘Vultures’ listening session in China with Ty Dolla $ign, Kanye took to Instagram to share a nostalgic photo of himself from his childhood days in China. The caption read, ‘BACK AGAIN,’ showing a young Kanye in white Nike sneakers next to a sign reading ‘Chungking House.’
For those unfamiliar, Kanye lived in China briefly as a child, when his mother, Donda West, worked as a teacher in Nanjing. His connection to the country adds a unique layer to these performances, making them more than just gigs but a return to a formative part of his life.
Despite no formal announcement about ‘Bully,’ these teasers indicate that Kanye is fully immersed in his creative process again. Between his various artistic endeavors—from fashion design to filmmaking—it’s clear he’s channeling that energy back into his music.
