Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s much-anticipated album ‘Vultures 2’ has finally been released. According to Chart Data, it’s projected to move around 68,000 album-equivalent units in the US during its first week. This impressive number is set to earn the album the number two spot on the Billboard 200 chart, right behind Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department.’
This will be only the third time in Kanye’s career that an album of his has not debuted at number one. His 2004 debut ‘The College Dropout’ and his 2018 collaboration with Kid Cudi, ‘Kids See Ghosts,’ also debuted at number two. Despite missing the top spot, ‘Vultures 2’ has still had a commendable first week.
Meanwhile, Kanye and Ty have planned a unique live event called the ‘Vultures Listening Experience.’ Initially, there were speculations that the show would be held in South Korea, following Kanye’s appearance in Tokyo. This has now been confirmed, with the event scheduled for August 23, although the venue remains undisclosed.
However, the road to these listening experiences hasn’t been smooth. In March, the duo announced several shows across the US, including stops in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, North Carolina, and Florida. But by the end of March, all of these dates were removed from Kanye’s Ticketmaster page. Venues like PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh and Spectrum Center in Charlotte confirmed the cancellations.
The Amalie Arena in Tampa and Amerant Bank Arena in Fort Lauderdale shared that the cancellations were due to the time constraints for Kanye and Ty to curate production and meet logistical requirements. The Spectrum Center even stated that the show was “officially” canceled. This series of setbacks has certainly added some drama to the album’s release.
Despite some hiccups along the way, ‘Vultures 2’ is making an impressive debut.
