Things have gotten heated between Kanye West and Travis Kelce’s dad, Ed Kelce, over lyrics directed at Taylor Swift.
NFL star Travis Kelce’s father, Ed Kelce, took to Facebook to express his frustration with Kanye West’s song “Lifestyle,” featuring Lil Wayne. The lyrics in question take aim at Taylor Swift, Kelce’s girlfriend, with Weezy rapping: “Ice up in my veins, old flames tryna melt me / I twist my Taylor spliffs tight at the end like Travis Kelce.”
Ed Kelce shared a Daily Mail article about the song and wrote, “Mental illness on full display.” His comment quickly caught attention and added fuel to the controversy surrounding the track.
Meanwhile, the drama doesn’t end there. Kanye West is also facing issues with Atlantic Records over the release of his and Ty Dolla $ign’s albums, Vultures and Vultures 2. According to screenshots shared by Kanye, his manager, John Monopoly, revealed that Atlantic is demanding 40% of all revenue from both albums, as Ty Dolla $ign is signed to their label.
John Monopoly mentioned that Julie Greenwald, the former co-head of Atlantic, suggested handling the matter urgently to avoid having the albums taken down from streaming services. Kanye responded by asking who the new head of Atlantic is after it was announced that Elliot Grainge would take over.
Despite the albums being released independently through Kanye’s YZY imprint, Atlantic Records holds rights to Ty Dolla $ign’s work, thereby complicating the situation. Audiomack co-founder Brian Zisook commented on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “A record agreement gives the label permission to exploit their music — exclusively — during the full term. Atlantic hasn’t seen a dime from the albums… so of course they want to be paid.”
This spat between Kanye West, Ed Kelce, and Atlantic Records is far from over. Whether it’s Sharp lyrics or label disputes, there’s never a dull moment in the world of hip-hop.
