Jim Jones has once again teamed up with legendary civil rights leader Ben Chavis Jr. for his new album, At the Church Steps.

This marks a significant collaboration as it brings Chavis back into the fold, reminiscent of his contributions to Jones’ earlier works.

A Long-standing Partnership

Ben Chavis Jr., known for his pivotal role in the civil rights movement, is making a special appearance on Jim Jones’ latest album. Chavis has collaborated with Jones before, providing skits and prayers on Jones’ 2004 debut, On My Way to Church, and his 2006 album, Hustler’s P.O.M.E.

Now, as On My Way to Church celebrates its 20th anniversary, the two have reunited to create something truly special.

A Blessing for a New Era

Jones shared a video on Instagram with Chavis in the studio, revealing that Chavis would be blessing the opening track of the album. Jones expressed deep admiration for Chavis’ lifelong dedication to civil rights and unity.

“I’ma give y’all something special might be the last album we get to hear like this in these digital times,” Jones said.

Inspirations and Reflections

Jones drew inspiration from the movie Belly, specifically a speech Chavis gave to DMX. He recounted how the speech felt more like a prayer and resonated deeply with him at a crucial time in his life.

“It didn’t feel like they gave him that as a script, it felt like he was praying in front of the camera. and at that time in my life, I needed that prayer,” Jones noted.

Jones emphasized that both his and Chavis’ journeys are about the process rather than the destination.

Fashion Rivalry with Lil Yachty

Outside of music, Jones recently responded to Lil Yachty’s comments about New York fashion. Yachty claimed on his podcast that Atlanta is the true trendsetter in fashion, which didn’t sit well with Jones.

To settle the debate, Jones proposed a fashion showdown, or “drip-off,” challenging Yachty to a style contest where they would each spend $1,000 and let the public decide who has the better look.

Voicing His Opinion

Jones didn’t hold back, making it clear that he believes Yachty’s view is misguided. “What Lil Yachty was talking about the other day? This n-gga smoking coke,” Jones said.

Jones suggested a unique way to solve the disagreement with a friendly competition. He proposed they do a shop-off in either New York or Atlanta and post the results on Instagram for fans to judge.

Yachty has yet to respond to the challenge, but the proposed event has already created a buzz among fans.
