Fatman Scoop, born Isaac Freeman III, tragically passed away at 53 after collapsing during a performance at Hamden Town Center Park. Scoop received CPR and was rushed to the hospital, but news of his death broke early Saturday morning.

Missy Elliott took to social media platform X on Saturday, August 31, to mourn the loss of her ‘Lose Control’ collaborator. She expressed her grief, writing, ‘Prayers for Fatman Scoop family for STRENGTH during this difficult time 🙏🏾 Fatman Scoop VOICE & energy have contributed to MANY songs that made the people feel HAPPY & want to dance for over 2 decades. Your IMPACT is HUGE & will be NEVER be forgotten..🕊️🙏🏾.’

Meanwhile, Jim Jones shared a heartfelt video of himself with Scoop, alongside a lengthy tribute on Instagram. Recalling their shared history, he penned, ‘So many stories I have wit u bro u watch me grow up in th project I watch u become successful from Shawnberg we lived across th street from each other. Even before th fame u would see me and say it’s something about u and u was totally right I never knew wht u meant but I understood wht u were sayin. After his passing, Scoop’s family released a statement via his official Instagram. ‘It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic FatMan Scoop,’ the message began. ‘Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.’ They described him as not just a world-class performer but also a father, brother, uncle, and friend. ‘He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage,’ they continued. ‘FatMan Scoop’s legacy is of love and brightness, it will reside in our hearts and memories forever.’

The hip hop community has lost an irreplaceable icon in Fatman Scoop. His energetic voice and infectious spirit touched many lives and will be remembered for years to come. Rest in peace, Fatman Scoop.
