GloRilla, one of the hottest rappers today, recently surprised students at her old Memphis high school with an unexpected visit.

On December 18th, GloRilla made her way back to Melrose High School, nestled in the Orange Mound neighborhood of Memphis. Despite her rising fame, she hasn’t forgotten her roots. During her visit, GloRilla made a substantial $25,000 donation aimed at transforming the school’s library into a modern media center. The school plans to name this new facility the Gloria H. Woods Media Center in her honor.

The students had no idea about her visit, making the moment even more special. “So the fact that I have the ability to do it now, it warms my heart,” she expressed, reflecting on her own school days and her dream to see a library like the one she’s now funding.

Melrose High School’s principal outlined how the funds will be utilized. A portion will be spent on flexible, comfy seating and allergen-free carpets, with $5,000 earmarked for decorations to create inviting study areas. Another $5,000 is set aside for updated learning software, enhancing research and productivity for the students.

The school is also excited about using $5,000 to introduce a new student rewards program dubbed ‘Glo Bucks.’ Students can earn these rewards based on their grades, attendance, and positive behavior, creating an additional incentive to excel. Plus, another $5,000 will go towards establishing the GloRilla Mentorship Program. It’s designed to expose students to enriching programs and field trips for their growth and well-being.

The remaining funds are yet another boost to the community. Some $2,500 will buy necessities like toiletries and clothing for the Melrose Clothes Closet, supporting students in need. Meanwhile, the final $2,500 is allocated to initiatives aimed at strengthening community ties through the school’s Office of Family Engagement.

To add a personal touch, GloRilla shared a nostalgic moment by posing in front of a trophy case at the school. This mirrored a picture from her days as a student, which she proudly displayed on her Instagram Story. Her deep connection to Melrose High is undeniable.

GloRilla’s generous donation and heartfelt visit underscore her commitment to giving back to her community. Her actions not only provide immediate benefitsbut also create opportunities for lasting growth and success at Melrose High School.
