Future has reconnected with Pharrell Williams once again, sparking excitement among fans as they aim to recreate the magic of their hit “Move That Dope.” A photo of the duo, shared by Mick the Ruler on social media, garnered attention with the caption: ‘Neptune Pluto.’
A decade has passed since Future and Pharrell first collaborated on ‘Move That Dope,’ a standout track from Future’s album ‘Honest.’ The song also featured Pusha T and Casino, with production from Mike WiLL Made-It and P-Nasty. Pharrell’s rare verse on the track was reminiscent of his braggadocious era from ‘In My Mind: The Prequel.’
Recently, Future has been teasing a new mixtape throughout the year, even though he has already released two full-length projects in 2024. In May, he shared on social media, ‘I can’t sleep until it’s complete #MIXTAPEPLUTO,’ suggesting how invested he is in this upcoming project.
Initially, fans expected the mixtape to drop on May 10. However, that date passed without any new music. Adding to the buzz, Future tweeted, ‘Fuck yo album Shit ain’t slappin like my MIXTAPE,’ which many interpreted as a dig at Gunna, whose album ‘One of Wun’ was set to release on the same day. Later, it turned out the tweet was promoting his ‘Swear to God’ collaboration with Tee Grizzley, featuring the lyric: ‘Fuck your album, shit ain’t slappin’ like my mixtape.’
Throughout the year, Future has remained a central figure in hip hop, particularly with his Metro Boomin collaborations ‘We Don’t Trust You’ and ‘We Still Don’t Trust You,’ which have dominated charts and sold hundreds of thousands of copies. These projects even stirred up a feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
On the track ‘We Don’t Trust You,’ Future took several subliminal shots at his former collaborator Drake, rapping lines like: ‘You a n-gga number one fan, dawg / Sneak dissin’, I don’t understand, dawg / Pillow talkin’, actin’ like a fed, dawg.’ Speculation about their fallout pointed to a woman, but Metro Boomin dismissed these rumors, urging fans to enjoy the music instead.
As Future and Pharrell join forces once more, anticipation for their new mixtape continues to build. Their past success together sets high expectations for what’s to come.
