Flau’jae Johnson is making waves not on the basketball court, but in the rap game. The former LSU Tigers basketball player took to Instagram to share the cover art for her debut album, dropping on June 28.
The cover art features Flau’jae gazing skyward against a blue and purple backdrop adorned with a basketball and a microphone. This visual perfectly encapsulates her dual passion for music and basketball.
In her Instagram post, Flau’jae expressed her excitement: ‘My New Project “Best Of Both Worlds” 🌍✨ 6/28. I am so excited to let y’all into my world, juggling music and basketball hasn’t been the easiest journey for me, but it has definitely been the most rewarding. I love you all. This Project is gonna Change My Life and I can’t wait to experience this journey with y’all on June 28th.’
Flau’jae also dropped her single ‘Pop It’ to give fans a taste of what’s to come: ‘I dropped ‘Pop It’ which is on the project so y’all can have something to listen to until it drops!! It’s out on ALL platforms and you might see a little surprise on the project when you go stream pop it 🌍🌍🌍.’
Although she’s still new to the rap game, Flau’jae has already caught the attention of big names. Late last year, during Rod Wave’s tour, the ‘Rags to Riches’ rapper brought her out to perform her track ‘Big 4.’ This debut was just days before she hit the court with her basketball team, where she helped secure an 81-36 win over Northwestern State Demons, scoring 13 points and making 5 assists.
Flau’jae follows in the musical footsteps of her father, the late rapper Camouflage, and she’s not the only LSU Tiger making a splash in the rap world. Her teammate, Angel Reese, received recognition from Tony Yayo for popularizing his ‘U Can’t C Me’ dance. Yayo downplayed the controversy surrounding the gesture, saying, ‘Any kind of sports, talking trash is a part of the game. I mean, it was for the championship game. It’s competition.’ Yayo also appreciated how his dance had been passed down: ‘I mean, Kanye talked about doing the Yayo dance in a song. John Cena mentioned that he got it from me. So I’m cool with it, you know? It’s just a dance.’
Flau’jae’s journey from the basketball court to the stage is just beginning, and with her debut album on the horizon, she’s ready to make an indelible mark in the music world. Keep an eye out for ‘Best Of Both Worlds’ on June 28 and in the meantime, enjoy her single ‘Pop It.’
