Eminem has left fans speechless with a clever Easter egg in his latest album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).”
A viral social media post on July 29 connected the dots, highlighting a forgotten interview where Eminem shared that his 2005 track, “When I’m Gone,” symbolizes “putting this persona to bed.”
In “Guilty Conscience 2” from his new album, Eminem shoots his alter ego and wakes up from a dream, while a snippet of “When I’m Gone” plays in the background. This detail has fans buzzing.
Listeners are also speculating that the track references another song, “My Darling,” from his album Relapse, which depicts Eminem battling Slim Shady for control over his mind.
In “Guilty Conscience 2,” Eminem raps, “What shot is this? First, second — it’s your third,” which fans believe calls back to both “When I’m Gone” and “My Darling.”
There’s an ongoing debate among fans about whether the Slim Shady persona is truly dead or the whole thing is just a dream.
Meanwhile, former Shady Records signee Joe Budden shared on his podcast that he hasn’t felt the urgency to listen to the album yet. He noted, “I will eventually listen to this, but I haven’t yet. I ain’t even thought about it yet […] I don’t care about none of the Slim Shady shit.”
Despite Budden’s lack of urgency, “The Death of Slim Shady” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, ending Taylor Swift’s 12-week run at the top. The album also boasts the highest Hip Hop sales of 2024, moving nearly 300,000 equivalent units without a physical release.
Eminem continues to captivate and intrigue fans with his storytelling and intricate details, solidifying his legacy once again.
