- The controversy has also dragged Soulja Boy into the drama.
Drake and Lil Yachty have hit a snag with their latest track ‘Super Soak.’ The song features a sample from Mr. HotSpot’s ‘Goodness Gracious,’ but it turns out they never got the go-ahead to use it.
Lil Yachty leaked ‘Super Soak’ to popular streamer Kai Cenat earlier this month, even though Mr. HotSpot hadn’t cleared the sample. Mr. HotSpot, known for his viral dance vids, wasn’t thrilled.
Mr. HotSpot, who’s had a religious awakening, turned down the sample request. He said money wasn’t the issue; he just couldn’t approve it without changes.
However, there’s a way out. Mr. HotSpot said he will clear the sample if Drake and Yachty rework the song into a clean, child-friendly version. He emphasized working with kids and wanting to ensure the lyrics are appropriate for them.
In a TikTok Live, Mr. HotSpot explained they had sent a clean reference to Drake and Yachty. He’s hoping they re-record it and come together with a version that’s safe for younger listeners.
Mr. HotSpot said, ‘It’s the children who really running these views up so if we can make sure both verses clean, everybody coming clean, everybody gonna benefit for sure.’ He’s not holding them back, just wants the morals in check.
Meanwhile, the leaked song has caused friction with Soulja Boy, who felt Drake’s lyrics were shading him and his SODMG label. After a social media rant, Soulja clarified it wasn’t a diss and things are cool with Drake now.
Lil Yachty, unhappy with Mr. HotSpot’s decision, mentioned in an interview the team never got to discuss money. He feels they could still perform the song live and make money off of it.
The backlash from leaking the song without clearance has put Yachty in hot water, forcing him to step back from social media.
The fate of ‘Super Soak’ now hangs on whether a clean version surfaces.
