Drake’s unreleased music drops on social media, but Universal Music Group wasn’t pleased. Here’s what went down:
- Drake shared a trove of unreleased tracks, videos, and content on social media.
- Universal Music Group slapped Drake with a copyright violation.
- The violation notice didn’t specify which song triggered it.
- Fans were treated to behind-the-scenes footage and new collaborations.
Drake surprised fans by dropping a massive collection of unreleased content on social media through a burner Instagram account. The account, @plottttwistttttt, showcased old songs, videos, and even plans for his private jet’s exterior decor.
Universal Music Group quickly reacted by issuing a copyright violation claim. The notification came from Instagram, but details about the specific song that caused the issue were not revealed.
Among the uploaded content were three new tracks titled ‘It’s Up’ featuring Young Thug and 21 Savage, ‘Housekeeping Knows’ with Latto, and ‘Blue Green Red.’
Drake also shared exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, such as the making of the ‘Hotline Bling’ video and a 16-page concept pack for his plane.
Latto took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to post a video of her rapping her verse from the collaboration with Drake. Producer Gordo enthusiastically shared the track on X, declaring, ‘DRAKE – HOUSEKEEPING KNOWS PRODUCED BY MEEEEEEE!!!! HES BAAAAAAACKKKK!!!’
Universal Music Group is challenging Drake’s right to release this content, arguing that his contract with them does not permit it.
The dump also included a clip of Drake and producer Noah ’40’ Shebib waiting for JAY-Z to submit his feature for the song ‘Talk Up’ from the ‘Scorpion’ album. Drake was meticulously planning his next move while JAY-Z performed on the ‘On the Run II’ tour.
Universal Music Group’s copyright claim has cast a shadow over Drake’s unexpected treasure trove release, leaving fans in suspense.
