Once again, Drake and Chris Brown are in legal hot water over their hit ‘No Guidance.’
- Tykeiya Dore and Marc Stephens allege the song copied their track ‘I Got It.’
- Allegations include similarities in lyrics, melody, and rhythm.
- The suit features a now-deleted YouTube video comparing the songs.
- The case also involves record labels and YouTube, adding more drama.
Drake and Chris Brown are embroiled in yet another lawsuit over ‘No Guidance,’ accused of copying ‘I Got It’ by Tykeiya Dore and Marc Stephens. The artists claim the hit song lifts from their 2016 track, saying it borrows similar chord progressions, melody, and lyrics.
The lawsuit, filed in New Jersey, even details the transition from ‘I Got It’ to ‘You got it,’ emphasizing the likeness. Drama erupted online with a YouTube video that purportedly illustrated the similarities, although it was later removed.
It’s not just Drake and Chris Brown in the spotlight. Co-writers and producers, including Velous and Noah ’40’ Shebib, are also named. Several music publishers and RCA Records find themselves entangled in these allegations as well.
A fascinating twist in this case is the involvement of YouTube and its parent company, Alphabet. They’re part of the lawsuit over accusations of defamation following a takedown notice issued by Stephens. This notice led to the temporary deletion of his channel, stirring up further controversy.
‘No Guidance’ has already been the subject of legal scrutiny. In 2021, similar claims were made by Braindon Cooper and Timothy Valentine, who alleged it resembled their track, ‘I Love Your Dress.’ However, those accusations were withdrawn in August 2022.
Both Drake and Chris Brown dismissed past claims as ‘baseless,’ and Drake was eventually removed from the previous lawsuit. The shadow of this legal battle, however, continues to hover over these artists, as new accusers step into the fray.
The legal saga surrounding ‘No Guidance’ continues as fresh allegations emerge.
