Ab-Soul’s next album is creating a buzz, thanks to DJ Hed’s enthusiastic comments.
DJ Hed, the seasoned Los Angeles DJ, recently shared his thoughts on Ab-Soul’s upcoming album during an episode of HipHopDX’s The Bigger Picture series. “Ab-Soul? He got some slaps,” Hed confidently stated. “Ab-Soul got at least two slaps that I’ve personally heard.”
Co-host Elliott Wilson chimed in, mentioning that Ab-Soul’s previous album, Herbert, was criminally underrated. Jeremy Hecht agreed, acknowledging that “slaps” aren’t typically what listeners expect from Ab-Soul, who is known for his deep, conceptual lyrics. But according to DJ Hed, Ab-Soul has at least two songs that are guaranteed hits.
The first hint about a new Ab-Soul album came from TDE founder Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith during a Q&A with fans on social media in March 2023. Tiffith also mentioned a deluxe edition of Herbert and a follow-up album, though the former hasn’t materialized yet.
Excitement grew even more when Ab-Soul recruited LeBron James to A&R his next project. In a video clip, the rapper asked the NBA legend, who enthusiastically agreed. LeBron praised Ab-Soul’s Herbert album on social media, calling it “so COLD MAN!!!!!!!!! [Fire] project G.” Meanwhile, LeBron also has experience in this area, having worked on 2 Chainz’s 2019 album Rap or Go to the League.
In March, Ab-Soul teased fans with an edited photo of Mad Men’s Don Draper, hinting at the release strategy for his new project. The post suggested archiving old Instagram posts before the first single drops. Following his own advice, Ab-Soul scrubbed his Instagram account, though no new single has been released yet.
With DJ Hed’s endorsement and LeBron James on board, fans eagerly await Ab-Soul’s next album, hoping for those promised ‘slaps.’
