Dame Dash recently shed light on why he distanced himself from Jay-Z and R. Kelly’s 2002 collaborative album, Best Of Both Worlds. The controversy surrounding R. Kelly, especially his alleged assault of Aaliyah, was a major factor in this decision.
Dame Dash expressed his concerns over the morality of partnering with R. Kelly, given the serious allegations against him. He was surprised by Jay-Z’s decision to proceed, despite warnings from within their circle, known as Roc.
While discussions were ongoing about the album, Dame emphasized that any involvement with R. Kelly felt morally incorrect to him. “Like, it’s morally wrong to do a project with someone that we know r**ed my girl or r**ed anybody, for that matter,” he remarked, highlighting his disapproval.
As tensions arose, it appeared that Jay-Z was trying to distance himself from the Roc-A-Fella crew. Dame Dash noted that Jay wanted him and Biggs to dilute their shares. However, both resisted, standing firm in their business values.
The situation eventually reached a resolution, thanks to their OG, Deuce from St. Croix. He stepped in, advising against dilution and endorsing a fair solution. Dame Dash ultimately opted out of receiving any profits from the project, further solidifying his position.
Reflecting on the matter, Dame stated, “Yo, you keep all the money from that project. I don’t want no parts of it.” His decision was clear: no involvement with Best Of Both Worlds.
Ultimately, Dame Dash’s decision was rooted in his strong moral stance and loyalty to Aaliyah. His choice to walk away from the album underscored his commitment to these principles, despite the business implications.
