- Lil Jon brought the party vibe with ‘Turn Down for What.’
- Barack Obama delivered a memorable speech, taking jabs at Donald Trump.
- Patti LaBelle, Eva Longoria, and Spike Lee also made appearances.
Common and Lil Jon both hit the stage at the Democratic National Convention to support presidential candidate Kamala Harris, bringing wildly different vibes.
At Chicago’s United Center, Common, a hometown hero, performed ‘Fortunate’ from his joint album with Pete Rock. He delighted the crowd by tweaking his lyrics to say, ‘We fortunate, y’all, for Kamala Harris.’
This was Common’s second time performing for the DNC. His first appearance was a virtual one in 2020 during the pandemic when he performed ‘Glory’ with John Legend.
Changing the mood, Lil Jon performed his rowdy 2013 hit ‘Turn Down for What,’ turning the convention into a brief but wild party. He represented his home state of Georgia’s delegates with high energy.
The night also featured performances by Patti LaBelle and guest appearances from Eva Longoria and Spike Lee, adding to the star-studded event.
Barack Obama stole the show with his lengthy speech in support of Kamala Harris. He criticized Donald Trump, saying, ‘It’s one of the oldest tricks in politics — from a guy whose act has gotten pretty stale.’
Obama humorously compared Trump to ‘the neighbor who keeps running his leaf blower outside your window every minute of every day.’
The former president endorsed Harris, emphasizing the need for a leader who cares for the essential workers in America.
The Democratic National Convention was a mix of powerful performances and speeches, all rallying support for Kamala Harris.
