We’ve all been guilty of reading too much into rap lyrics. But Charlamagne Tha God believes that ASAP Rocky and J Cole’s new track, “Ruby Rosary,” is not a diss aimed at Drake.
Fans have been buzzing about potential disses in the new song. Some think ASAP Rocky’s lyrics take a jab at Drake due to some possibly slick references. The Breakfast Club crew, however, isn’t convinced.
Charlamagne Tha God voiced his skepticism, questioning the idea of a diss. “How is that a Drake diss?” he asked when one of his co-hosts recited the controversial lyrics. Laughing, he suggested that fans are just making things up. “If he says ‘F your top five,’ your top five must be Drake, Drake, Drake, Drake, and Drake.”
What makes this even funnier is that there’s someone out there whose top five is all Drake. Just check out DJ Akademiks’ video on YouTube for a laugh.
Sure, some of ASAP Rocky’s fans point to bars about ‘push ups’ as clues. But it’s more likely these references are unintentional, Charlamagne argues. He believes they aren’t strong enough to warrant any real controversy. In fact, he thinks if anyone should be questioned, it’s J. Cole.
We already know there’s beef between Drake and ASAP Rocky. However, any subliminal shots are practically worthless, serving only to entertain those deeply invested in their feud. The speculation might be fun, but it doesn’t hold much weight in the grand scheme of things.
While the debates and theories continue to fly, Charlamagne Tha God remains firm in his stance. As far as he’s concerned, the so-called diss in “Ruby Rosary” is just fans reading too much into lyrics.
