Cardi B couldn’t hold back her tears as she shared heartfelt words with track star Sha’Carri Richardson ahead of the 2024 Olympic Summer Games.
On Monday, Cardi B posted a touching video where she and Richardson were getting their nails done for an NBC/Peacock promo, just before Richardson heads to Paris for the Summer Games.
“Wishing @itsshacarri sooooo much luck!!” Cardi wrote. She continued, “You bought so much emotion out of me because your words and your spirit is so powerful. Seeing your growth after people tried to turn their back on you is so inspirational to me. You are more than just an athlete, you are a SUPERHERO and I can’t wait to see where the next 10 years take you because you already a legend @NBCOlympics”.
In the video, Cardi B showers Sha’Carri with compliments, saying, “You’re like a girl that I could really hang out with, really chill with, really be cool with, really be like, ‘Girl! She’s really like one of us!’ I’m really really proud of you.” Emotions got the best of Cardi at the end, and she teared up.
This will be Sha’Carri Richardson’s first appearance at the Olympics, after being disqualified from the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games for testing positive for marijuana. At that time, Cardi B, along with Drake and Snoop Dogg, were vocal supporters of Richardson. “They know she woulda ATE,” wrote Drake on his Instagram Stories. Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg criticized the decision by the United States Anti-Doping Agency, stating, “Are you serious?! Marijuana? It’s not an enhancement for her abilities.”
In an interview on the TODAY show, Richardson explained she had smoked to cope with the loss of her biological mother and accepted her punishment.
