Cardi B has once again clashed with Candace Owens, but this time it’s over the tragic death of Sonya Massey.

Sonya Massey, a 36-year-old Black woman from Springfield, Illinois, was killed by an Illinois sheriff’s deputy on July 6. She had called the police for help, but the situation took a deadly turn.

Candace Owens, a conservative political commentator, discussed the incident on her show. She dismissed the idea that the shooting was racially motivated, stating, ‘Police officers are human beings, there are mistakes that happen.’ Owens added that it’s ‘ridiculous’ to claim the incident happened because Massey was Black.

Cardi B wasn’t having any of it. During a chat with fans on Twitter Spaces, she expressed her anger. ‘Today [Candace] said something so disturbing about the Sonya Massey case,’ Cardi said. ‘For you to sit here and say that ‘Oh not everything is racial. I know that this is sad, but this is not something racial. There’s more white people that get killed by the cops.’ […] Girl shut up.’

Cardi continued, criticizing Owens for her lack of empathy. ‘You don’t feel one little bit of empathy, a little bit of sympathy of how this woman died? There was no argument, there was no conflict, there was no raised voice, and she got shot. He knew in the back of his head because she was a Black woman that he was going to get away with it. Not only did he think that, but the department thought that because they didn’t tell her son or her father that a cop shot her.’

The beef between Cardi B and Owens isn’t new. Their public feud started in 2020 and has had several heated moments since. In 2022, Owens criticized Cardi, calling her ‘uneducated’ and mocking her political knowledge and typos.

Cardi fired back, claiming Owens’ team demanded a public apology and $75,000, or else they would sue. ‘What’s embarrassing is she tried to get her lawyers to make me do a public apology after she’s been attacking me for months and try to make me pay her $75K in a month or she threatened to sue with NO CASE… like how smart you are and don’t even know the law,’ Cardi responded.

Their clashes have included arguments over Cardi’s hit ‘WAP’ and other personal insults. The latest controversy, however, revolves around a more serious issue—the tragic death of Sonya Massey and the broader discussion on race and police violence.

This spat between Cardi B and Candace Owens not only highlights their ongoing feud but also underscores the deep and urgent conversations about race and justice in America.
