Bun B and OVO producer Boi-1da have fired back at Sauce Walka after he criticized Drake’s relationship with Houston rappers.
Walka, speaking on The Breakfast Club, questioned why Drake hasn’t collaborated much with Houston artists despite frequently working with Atlanta rappers. He remarked on Drake’s many collaborations in Atlanta with artists like 21 Savage and Young Thug.
Walka, a Houston native, expressed disappointment with what he sees as a lack of support from Drake for Houston’s music scene, saying it’s not just about him but the wider community.
He noted that apart from Travis Scott, who he sees as an ‘equal trade,’ Houston rappers haven’t received the same attention from Drake. He emphasized the importance of fair exchange and business, arguing that if Drake benefits from Houston’s culture, he should give back to the city’s economy.
Walka acknowledged Drake’s collaboration with Bun B but disputed Bun B’s ties to Houston because Bun B is originally from Port Arthur.
Bun B responded by saying he was born in Houston and moved to Port Arthur in sixth grade. He took no offense to Walka’s comment but clarified his connection to Houston.
Boi-1da also joined the conversation, commenting on Akademiks’ Instagram page about the matter. He pointed out several Houston artists Drake has worked with and labeled Walka’s claims as ‘selective memory.’
Interestingly, despite the criticism, Drake and Sauce Walka have been on seemingly good terms, having been seen laughing together at a Houston strip club earlier this year.
This back-and-forth highlights ongoing tensions in the rap community regarding support and recognition.
